Phnom Penh immigration police yesterday arrested 27 Chinese nationals on suspicion of using voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology to defraud victims in China.

The arrests took place at a flat in Sen Sok district’s Thmey commune, where officers discovered telephones and equipment for making VoIP calls, said Phnom Penh immigration police deputy director Khun Sombo.

Chinese VoIP scammers have long used Cambodia as a base of operations. In March, 118 Chinese nationals were arrested on suspicion of VoIP fraud.
