Two injured by falling tree branch in Kratie

A Forestry Administration official and a soldier stationed in Kratie’s Chhlong district were injured when a tree branch crashed into the shelter in which they were sleeping early yesterday morning.

Chhlong district police chief Duong Sothy said yesterday that Forestry Administration official Chan Moyuchi, 49, received head injuries and was knocked unconscious, and soldier Ly Meng, 52, broke his right leg when the branch crashed through the roof of their shelter near Chroy Thmor Krom village in Chhlong commune at 1am yesterday.

“Chan Moyuchi’s injuries were very serious and his superiors decided to send him to a hospital in Phnom Penh for treatment,” Sothy said. “Ly Meng was sent to the provincial hospital for surgery.”

Meng had been sent to the commune to crack down on forestry crime in the area while Moyuchi was permanently stationed there.

Sothy determined that since there had been no rainfall or storms on Monday night, decay within the branch was responsible for the incident.

Chea Sophal, military commander for Chhlong district, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
