About 60 workers from Kandal province’s Grand East Footwear factory fainted yesterday, three days after over 80 workers fainted at the same factory.
Sean Rithy, director for the Cambodian Youth Power Union League, said most of those who fainted were the same people who fainted on Monday.
Their fear of entering the factory after Monday’s incident, he said, caused the second mass fainting.
“Other reasons for the fainting are yet to be found, but we believe it might be because workers got emotional because they didn’t want to enter the factory,” he said.
In a separate mass-fainting incident, more than 50 workers at Takeo province’s Garbotex garment factory fainted yesterday, with Donkeo district police chief Chhay Savuth saying it may have been due to poor ventilation, given that windows on the factory floor were closed.
