Minister of Health Mam Bunheng yesterday announced the appointment of Dr Ngy Mean Heng as permanent director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department via the ministry’s Facebook page.
Earlier this month, Mean Heng, previously the deputy director, had been publicly tapped to manage the department after former director Sok Sokun was fired by Prime Minister Hun Sen, seemingly for enforcing a government directive and impounding an unregistered ambulance belonging to popular ABC Radio station.
The radio station claimed it was using the ambulance for humanitarian purposes, prompting the swift ouster. Amid backlash, Sokun was later given a new position, with the reshuffle painted as a “promotion”.
