Police in the capital’s Por Sen Chey district smelled something fishy about one would-be victim’s tale of torment on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old reported falling victim to a trio of stick-up artists, losing $50 and a necklace.
When police inspected the scene of the crime, however, they failed to find anyone to corroborate the tale.
They then pressed the victim further but he failed to reappear at the station, giving credence to their theory he’d merely blown his cash gambling and was trying to cover his tracks.
