Two trucks slam into locomotive in Kampot

Khouth Sophak Chakrya, The Phnom Penh Post
Mon, 5 September 2016

Two trucks crashed into the same train in separate incidents about an hour apart on Saturday in Kampot’s Angkor Chey district, according to local authorities.

Touch Chanthy, district deputy traffic chief, said yesterday the accident caused three hours of congestion, in addition to damage to the trucks and train.

According to Chanthy, the first truck crashed into the train as the train was crossing the road, breaking a barrier and knocking off the last carriage. The speed of the truck dragged the carriage into the middle of the road.

An hour later, while authorities were surveying the accident, another truck with faulty brakes crashed into the same carriage, which was still in the road.

“The accident was caused by two truck drivers who were careless and operated the trucks technically wrong. Both trucks were severely damaged, but no one lost their life or was injured in the accident,” Chanthy said.

Chanthy also said that authorities towed and impounded both trucks.

The drivers, Khorn Ya and Chhouk Hab, both 25, are expected to face fines for the damage.
