Lightning strikes yesterday killed two people and injured three others in Pursat province’s Krakor district.
Colonel Eam Run, Krakor district police chief, said five people were collecting mushrooms during a storm yesterday afternoon when lightning hit and killed two people on the spot.
“Sok Koeun, 45, and his wife Nob Chantha, 43, fell to the ground and died immediately after they were hit by lightning,” Col Run said.

He noted that Him Yas, 48, was seriously injured and sent to the hospital, while Sos El, 26, and El Maly, 20, suffered slight injuries and stayed home.
Col Run called on the public to be cautious during extreme weather conditions, especially during storms. He noted that the rainy season is also approaching and that the public should be careful.
Earlier this month, a mother and her four-year-old son were killed by lightning in Ratanakkiri province’s O’yadav district while they were staying in the cottage at their farm.
According to the National Committee for Disaster Management, 16 people were killed and 40 others injured by lightning throughout January until April.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology urged the public to be on high alert of natural disaster, especially being careful during lightning storms, noting that heavy rains will continue until May 18.
