Reports of minister’s death denied

Senior Minister Min Khin – whose death was erroneously reported by local media – is alive though in poor health, family members said yesterday.

The 74-year-old Khin, who spent eight years as minister of cults and religions before being appointed minister of special missions earlier this year, was reported to have died on Wednesday night in Bangkok, where he has been receiving treatment. Local media also reported that his body was being repatriated.

However, Min Madeth, the eldest of Khin’s six children, said yesterday that while his father was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney stones, he was alive and under the supervision of specialist doctors.

“I was really surprised and disappointed at some media for broadcasting that my father had passed away without asking us, his children,” Madeth said. “Not even a question.”

He said, however, there was only a slim chance that his father would recover. “Right now, we are preparing documents to bring my father back to his home,” Madeth said.

“This will serve as a chance for his children and relatives to take care of him and hear his last words.”
