City Hall yesterday held a meeting with trash-collection companies and district authorities to address the longstanding garbage problem at the capital’s Phsar Doeum Kor Market in Tuol Kork district.

The body said it had received multiple complaints from nearby residents over the accumulation of trash near the market, which sees large amounts of agricultural products delivered from the provinces.

While city officials could not be reached, Ith Chenda, manager at waste-collection firm Cintri, said his firm was not in charge of collecting garbage at the site, calling it a ‘white zone’.

He added that City Hall had contracted two separate firms – one to collect trash and the other for fees – but that his firm was now part of an interim solution to collect garbage from the area.
