Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Catherine A. Novelli will travel to Beijing, China, June 3-8. She will participate as a member of the U.S. delegation in the eighth U.S.–China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). Under Secretary Novelli will focus her engagement on expanding upon the extensive cooperation that already exists on a number of important economic and environmental issues.
On June 5 she will lead an aviation breakout session with a range of Chinese and U.S. agencies to discuss ways to adapt national aviation systems to meet the needs of 21st century economies. She will then participate in an innovation dialogue to support science and technological collaboration that can provide jobs and improve the quality of life. She will conclude the day with an event with National Geographic to raise awareness of wildlife trafficking.
On June 6, she will participate in a Blue Oceans Event, and in an EcoPartnerships program, which supports local and state actors in China and the United States who work together to find technical solutions to environmental challenges.
Under Secretary Novelli will give the opening remarks at the Power Sector Policy Dialogue on June 7 and then meet with local entrepreneurs. She departs for Cambodia on June 8.
On June 9 Under Secretary Novelli will visit the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary and meet with local rangers on forest law enforcement and activities designed to reduce poaching, wildlife trafficking, and illegal logging. She will subsequently meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhon and Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak. She will conclude the evening with a dinner reception with women entrepreneurs.
