Four Cambodians convicted of illegal logging in Thailand were released and repatriated yesterday after completing two-year prison terms.
Oddar Meanchey provincial police deputy chief of staff Chhit Chhorn said Thai authorities arrested Chhim Thy, 50; Yim Vanak, 25; Chhum Ra, 23; and Vong Run, 35, all from Kampong Speu province’s Samrong Tong district, on March 12, 2014, after they crossed the border to illegally log rosewood in Thailand.
“They were released through Chaom Sangam Cambodia-Thailand border checkpoint after completing their prison term,” he said. Chhorn said not as many villagers had tried crossing the border to go logging in Thailand this year compared to past years.
